Family's Thanksgiving Add Up
Diocesan Press Service. January 14, 1966 [XXXIX-3]
Recently a family in the mid-West received a letter of thanks from the Presiding Bishop. What prompted the Presiding Bishop to write a carpenter and his wife for their contribution to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief and Interchurch Aid?
They did nothing out of the ordinary, that is, if one takes Christianity seriously. This man, his wife and four children were solely responsible for $700 of a $782 contribution sent from their parish to the Presiding Bishop's Fund.
In a letter from their rector to the Presiding Bishop, the manner in which their contribution was obtained was described.
"At least once each day, around the dinner table, each member of the family places a money offering in a bowl, as an act of thanksgiving for all he has.
"As a parish we are only the humble agents whereby these offerings are transferred to your fund. "
