Resolved, That this 67th General Convention endorse this proposal to establish a joint commission of Episcopalians and Roman Catholics to develop a standard pattern for pastoral ministry to ecumenical marriages between Episcopalians and Roman Catholics to include:

a. Premarital preparation;

b. Further developments in the canonical and liturgical provision for such marriages;

c. Provision for ongoing ministry to the couple and their families; and be it further

Resolved, That the approved pattern be presented in joint Episcopal and Roman Catholic clergy workshops; and be it further

Resolved, That this 67th General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations to select the members of this Church to serve on this body, and report to the next General Convention.

Whereas, The Anglican-Roman Catholic Leaders' Conference meeting in June, 1981, recommended that a joint commission be established to develop a standard pattern for pastoral ministry to ecumenical marriages between Anglicans and Roman Catholics; therefore, be it

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That this 67th General Convention endorse this proposal to establish a joint commission of Episcopalians and Roman Catholics to develop a standard pattern for pastoral ministry to ecumenical marriages between Episcopalians and Roman Catholics to include:

a. Premarital preparation;

b. Further developments in the canonical and liturgical provision for such marriages;

c. Provision for ongoing ministry to the couple and their families, the approved pattern to be presented in joint Episcopal and Roman Catholic clergy workshops; and be it further

Resolved, The House of Deputies concurring, That this 67th General Convention direct the Standing Commission on Ecumenical Relations to select the members of this Church to serve on this body, and report to the next General Convention.

Proposed Committee Amendment:

Add a second Whereas, reading:

"And Whereas the ecumenical networks of both Churches have made preliminary investigations which are helpful in this area of concern; therefore, be it. . ."

In (c):

put a ";" after "families," deleting the rest of the sentence.

After (c) add:

"and be it further Resolved, That the approved pattern be presented in joint Episcopal and Roman Catholic clergy workshops; and be it further..."

The Committee moved the adoption of Resolution A-39A (Episcopal-Roman Catholic Marriages).

Seconded by the Bishop of Quincy.

On the seventh day, the Chairman of the Committee on Ecumenical Relations presented its Report #4, on Resolution A-39A (Commission on Episcopal-Roman Catholic Marriage).

The Committee recommended concurrence with House of Bishops Message #38, and that the resolution be adopted without further amendment.
