Resolved, That this 69th General Convention ratify the division of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico in order to create two new dioceses that, until the new dioceses adopt a name, shall be referred to as the Diocese of the South of Mexico and the Diocese of the Southeast of Mexico, and the continuing Diocese shall be known as the Diocese of Central Mexico; the boundaries of the three Dioceses shall be as follows:

The Diocese of Central Mexico shall include six States and the City of Mexico: Mexico City, D.F.; northern and western parts of the State of Mexico; State of Michoacan; State of Guanajuato; State of Queretaro; State of Hidalgo; State of Tlaxcala;

The Diocese of the South of Mexico shall include five States: State of Morelos; State of Guerrero; southwestern and southeastern parts of the State of Mexico; southwestern part of the State of Puebla; southern part of the State of Oaxaca including the Mexteca Zone.

The Diocese of the Southeast of Mexico shall include four States: northern and eastern parts of the State of Puebla; State of Veracruz; northern part of the State of Oaxaca; State of Tabasco; and be it further

Resolved, That this 69th General Convention receive the following evidence supporting this resolution:

  1. Certified copy of the resolution duly approved by the Convention of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico committing the Diocese to its division and the establishment of two new dioceses;
  2. The consent of the Bishop of Central and South Mexico to divide the diocese;
  3. Certificate of the Secretary of the Convention of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico concerning the number of parishes, missions, institutions, and Presbyters in the continuing diocese and in the new dioceses;
  4. Map of the existing and proposed continuing and new Dioceses;
  5. Certificate of the Treasurer of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico concerning the financial abilities of the continuing diocese and of the new dioceses, with supporting financial data;
  6. Certificate of the President of the Standing Committee concerning the fulfillment of the approved resolution and the authenticity of the presented documents;
  7. Certificate of the Chancellor of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico that all aforesaid documents have been duly executed, are accurate and are entitled to full faith and credit, and that all of the appropriate and pertinent provisions of the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Diocese of Central and South Mexico have been fully complied with in respect of this submission.

Whereas, the Diocese of Central and South Mexico, in the 15th Convention meeting at San Pedro Martir, D.F., Mexico, the 29th of March 1987, adopted a resolution to divide the Diocese and to form two new dioceses; therefore be it

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That this 69th General Convention ratify the division of the Diocese of Central and South Mexico in order to create two new dioceses that, until the new dioceses adopt a name, shall be referred to as the Diocese of the South of Mexico and the Diocese of the Southeast of Mexico, and the continuing Diocese shall be known as the Diocese of Central Mexico; the boundaries of the three Dioceses shall be as follows:

Proposed Committee Amendment:

In the second paragraph of the Resolution:

change "seven" to "six" in the first line and delete "southern part of the State of San Luis Potosi" in the third and fourth lines.
