Resolved, That the 1991 General Convention of the Episcopal Church commend:

  1. The Presiding Bishop for his statement and actions in the period of October to December 1990, urging consideration of moral values in the resolution of the crisis in the Persian Gulf, and his faithfulness in carrying these concerns to President Bush on several occasions; and
  2. We commend the Presiding Bishop for his pastoral ministry to those directly involved in the Gulf War, those who supported it and those who opposed it; and
  3. We commend him for his continuing leadership in the care of victims and refugees of this war, through his personal concern and through the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief. Moreover, we commend him for his continued commitment to peace and justice in the Middle East.

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That the 1991 General Convention of the Episcopal Church commend:

  1. The Presiding Bishop for his statements and actions in the period October to December 1990, urging consideration of moral values in the resolution of the crisis in the Persian Gulf, and his faithfulness in carrying these concerns to President Bush on several occasions; and
  2. The Church leaders, drawn together by him, who made the peace pilgrimage to the Middle East, December 14-21, 1990, and their message to the American people, "War is Not the Answer."
