Resolved, That this General Convention of the Episcopal Church urge the President of the United States and the Congress to express deep concern to the government of Japan regarding the rights of Koreans, Burakumin, Ainu, and other minorities in Japan; and be it further

Resolved, That this General Convention requests the Presiding Bishop to communicate this concern to the Primate of the Nippon Sei Ko Kai to express the willingness of the Episcopal Church to support the Nippon Sei Ko Kai in the struggle against racism and discrimination and to enlist the support of the Anglican Consultative Council in expressing this concern.

Resolved, the House of Deputies concurring, That this General Convention of the Episcopal Church urge that the President of the United States and the Congress serve notice to the government of Japan to uphold the rights of Koreans and other minorities (Burakumin, Ainu, etc.,) in Japan; and be it further

Resolved, That this General Convention inform the Anglican Church in Japan of this resolution, suggesting a joint Nippon Seiko Kai and Episcopal Church statement on this issue, directed to the government of Japan, indicating the intent of the Church to work for, particularly in the United States (in the manner of United States support for the struggle against racism in South Africa) reflected in policies of the government of Japan, which impact upon political, economic and cultural affairs in the United States and elsewhere in the world, such intent to made known to the Japanese government and throughout the Anglican Communion through the office of the Presiding Bishop and the Washington Office of the Episcopal Church.

The Bishop of Long Island moved to amend as follows.

In Par.1, delete "(Burakumin, Ainu, etc.)" and after the word "Koreans," insert the words "Burakumin, Ainu,."

Abstract:   The 70th General Convention urges the President and Congress of the United States to express concern to the government of Japan regarding the rights of minorities in Japan.
