Resolved, the House of Bishops concurring, That the 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church call upon the Security Council of the United Nations to lift the sanctions imposed upon Iraq in order that the enormous suffering of the civilian Iraqi population, particularly children and elderly persons, can be relieved.

Proposed Committee Amendment:

Strike all the words following "imposed upon Iraq" and add the words "as soon as it has been verified that Iraq is in full compliance with all relevant resolutions of the United Nations and all provisions of the cease fire agreement."

Deputy Selzer of Minnesota moved a substitute to D199.

Proposed Amendment:

Restore the original resolution.
