Resolved, That this 67th General Convention ratifies the division of the Diocese of Tennessee into three parts so that the two new Dioceses and the continuing Diocese will consist of the following areas:
a) The new Diocese of West Tennessee will be composed of that portion of the State of Tennessee, lying west of the Tennessee River and including all of Hardin County;
b) The new Diocese of East Tennessee will be composed of the Counties of Anderson, Bledsoe, Blount, Bradley, Campbell, Claiborne, Carter, Cocke, Cumberland, Grainger, Greene, Hancock, Hamilton, Hamblen, Hawkins, Jefferson, Johnson, Knox, Loudon, Marion, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Polk, Rhea, Roane, Scott, [Sequatchie,] Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union and Washington in the State of Tennessee, and all that territory within the State of Georgia encompassed within the boundary lines of the Counties of Dade and Catoosa, and the northern portion of the County of Walker shown as Census Tracts Nos. 201, 202, 203, 204 and 205 upon the Walker County Census Tract Map dated August, 1967;
c) The continuing Diocese of Tennessee will be composed of the Counties of Bedford, Canon, Cheatham, Clay, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Dickson, Fentress, Franklin, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Lincoln, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Montgomery, Moore, Overton, Perry, Pickett, Putnam, Robertson, Rutherford, Sequatchie [sic], Smith, Sumner, Stewart, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, Wayne, White, Williamson and Wilson in the State of Tennessee; and be it further
Resolved, That this 67th General Convention receive the following evidence supporting this resolution:
- A certified copy of the resolutions duly adopted by the Diocese of Tennessee committing the Diocese to its division and the formation of two new Dioceses;
- The consent of the Bishop of Tennessee;
- A description of the boundaries of each of the Dioceses;
- Map of the existing and proposed two new Dioceses and continuing Diocese;
- Various statistical data pertinent to the two new Dioceses and the continuing Diocese;
- A certificate of the Treasurer of the Diocese of Tennessee concerning the financial abilities of the two new Dioceses and the continuing Diocese;
- A certificate of the Secretary of the Convention of the Diocese of Tennessee concerning the minimum number of Parishes and Presbyters qualified to vote for a Bishop in each of the two new Dioceses and in the continuing Diocese after division;
- Memorandum from the Bishop of Tennessee regarding provisions for the Primary Conventions of the two new Dioceses;
- Certificate of the Bishop of Tennessee and the President of the Standing Committee of compliance with provisions of the resolutions of division of the Convention of the Diocese of Tennessee, of authenticity of the other documents submitted and petition for approval of division;
- Proposed timetable for division of the Diocese of Tennessee;
- Certified copy of the Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Tennessee;
- Certificate of the Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellors of the Diocese of Tennessee that all aforesaid documents have been duly executed, are accurate, and are entitled to full faith and credit and that there has been full compliance with all of the appropriate and pertinent provisions of the Constitution and Canons of The Episcopal Church and of the Constitution and Canons of the Diocese of Tennessee.
