Whereas, The 65th General Convention resolved that the Church express its unequivocal opposition to any legislation on the part of the national or state governments which would abridge or deny the right of individuals to reach informed decisions in the matter of abortion; and

Whereas, A constitutional amendment banning abortion would abridge that right; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Executive Council express its unequivocal opposition to such an amendment -- known as the "Human Life Amendment"; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Council notify the President of the United States, the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Affairs, and all members of Congress of that opposition; and be it further

Resolved, That all dioceses be so notified also and that they be encouraged to inform members of their state legislatures and their governors.
