Resolved, That this Council welcome the visit of the delegation of the Church of Ireland, March 19-April 1, 1981; and be it further Resolved, That March 17-24, 1981, be observed as a week of Prayer for Peace and Reconciliation for Northern Ireland; and be it further Resolved, That where possible the celebration of St. Patrick's Day (March 17) be observed by congregations, using the proper for that day from Lesser Feasts and Fasts, and including special petitions for Ireland in the prayers of the people; and be it further Resolved, That Episcopalians, in addition to praying at home for peace in Ireland, be encouraged to attend a weekday Lenten celebration of the Eucharist to pray for that intention. The propers appointed for the Lenten weekdays are themselves appropriate for this purpose; and be it further Resolved, That this Council reaffirm the statement of the Lambeth Conference 1978 on "War and Violence," and request the Diocesan Press Service to assist in circulation within the Episcopal Church, and commend it to the attention of all Episcopalians; and be it further Resolved, That these actions be communicated to our partner church in Northern Ireland, to its Primate, the Most Rev. John Ward Armstrong; and be it further Resolved, That the Washington staff officer and the Public Issues officer express this Council's attention and concern about the continued violence in Northern Ireland to the Secretary of State and the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. |
