Whereas, The New Testament witnesses to the ministry of Jesus among the handicapped of Judea and Samaria; and Whereas, The Church has attempted to be faithful to its mission to further the spiritual, intellectual, moral and physical development of the people it serves; and Whereas, The Episcopal Church has traditionally committed itself to ministries to the blind, deaf and the emotionally and physically handicapped; and Whereas, The United Nations has declared 1981 as the International Year of the Disabled Person; and Whereas, The World Council of Churches has affirmed and committed the Council to support this declaration; therefore be it Resolved, That the International Year of the Disabled Person be observed in the Episcopal Church during 1981; and be it further Resolved, That information about resources and educational materials be made available for diocesan and parish use; and be it further Resolved, That the Office of Social Welfare marshall and coordinate all possible resources available through the Episcopal Church Center in support of dioceses' and parishes' ministry with disabled persons. |
