Whereas, The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, meeting at Mercy Center, Burlingame, California, June 6-8, 1984, has been able to conduct its business in an atmosphere of comfort, convenience and efficiency; and Whereas, The natural beauty of this California setting and the attractive facilities of the Center have been complimented by the quite attentiveness and faithful attention to detail by members of the Mercy Center Community; therefore be it Resolved, That this Executive Council make known to the Mercy Center Community and Sister Yvonne its gratitude to them for the many times that their natural kindness and thoughtfulness have been employed to both meet our needs and also offer to us a gesture of ecumenical friendship. Whereas, The Venerable Clarence Stacy, Archdeacon of the Diocese of California, Secretary of the Eighth Province, and sometime diocesan administrator, church communicator and parish priest, has been a constant and ever present source of help, guidance and counsel in the arrangement of a wide variety of details related to the June 1984 meeting of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church at Mercy Center, Burlingame, California; and Whereas, The Venerable Clarency Stacy has been willing to serve as well as advise, listen as well as speak, and act as well as speculate while working with the Executive Council secretarial and planning staff; and Whereas, The Venerable Clarence Stacy continues as a loyal and friendly personification of the generosity and love that embody the entire Eighth Province; therefore be it Resolved, That this Executive Council of the Episcopal Church commends Archdeacon Stacy for his major contribution to the efficiency and well-being of this meeting, and anticipates working with him in a variety of ways in the days ahead. Whereas, The Rev. Canon Roswell O. Moore, President of the Eighth Province, has exhibited maximum hospitality, great depth of insight and unstinting interest in the June 1984 meeting of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church in Burlingame, California; and Whereas, The Rev. Roswell O. Moore served as host to the Council members during their time in the Province, especially in planning and executing the visits of the Council to several sites of unique ministry and service; and Whereas, The Rev. Roswell O. Moore gave evidence to the importance of the Executive Council meeting by his presence; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its appreciation to the Rev. Canon Roswell O. Moore and to the people of the Eighth Province for their hospitality, interest and good will. Whereas, Mrs. Sally Young, in her capable and efficient manner, helped to coordinate the wonderful cocktail party and dinner for the Executive Council on July 7th at St. Francis Parish; and Whereas, Mrs. Sally Young provided back-up and support for the secretarial office during the Executive Council meeting in Burlingame, California, June 5-8, 1984, and endeared herself to all concerned; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its thanks and appreciation to Mrs. Young for her extraordinary efforts on behalf of this meeting. Whereas, Mr. Henry "Hank" Richards provided and coordinated bus transportation for members of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church, enabling them to visit many sites of ministry and mission in the San Francisco area on June 7, 1984; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its appreciation to Henry Richards for his cooperation and service, and wish him well in the days to come. Whereas, The Rector, the Episcopal Church Women, and the Youth of St. Barnabas parish, San Francisco, added greatly to the enjoyment, learning and fellowship of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church during its June 1984 meeting; and Whereas, The wonderful meal, the charming dances, and the rich fellowship provided by the people of St. Barnabas on June 7, 1984, was a chance for relaxation and fun during an on-going meeting of business and deliberation; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its good wishes and thanks to the Rector, the Episcopal Church Women and the Youth of St. Barnabas, and bid God's Blessing on them as they minister in his name in the days ahead. Whereas, The members of Youth Group of the Diocese of California, by virtue of their talent and songs, enlivened the dinner for the Executive Council held at St. Francis' Church in San Francisco on June 7, 1984; and Whereas, The members of Youth Group will be going to Maui, Hawaii this summer to lead a Vacation Bible School in the Filipino community there; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its thanks to each member of the group for its music, and bid God's Blessing on them as they minister in His name in the days ahead. Whereas, Grace Cathedral on every day of every year is a silent and strong witness for Jesus Christ as it stands atop Knob Hill in the City of St. Francis; and Whereas, Grace Cathedral, on June 7, 1984, was a special witness to members of the Episcopal Church's Executive Council who visited there during the Council's meeting held at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church thank Canon Merriman, the Rev. Victor Wei, and all the people of the Cathedral and the Diocesan Office for their hospitality and their sharing with us on June 7, as well as for their on-going ministry on every day of the year in the name of Jesus Christ. Whereas, Jesus Christ is the saviour of all sorts and conditions of people; and Whereas, That truth is sometimes lost to the Church amid our concerns and endeavors; and Whereas, The ministry of the Church in the name of Christ to all people was made evident to the members of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church in June 1984 during a visit to the Church of the Good Samaritan and to St. Barnabas Church in the City of St. Francis; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church thank the members of the Church of the Good Samaritan and of St. Barnabas Church for their sharing with us and for their ongoing ministries, with special appreciation being extended to the Rev. Patrick Maitrejean, the Rev. Mary Atwood, and the Rev. Sancho Gaerlaen. Whereas, The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church has been both helped and inspired by its visit to The Parsonage in the City of St. Francis; and Whereas, This visit will be in minds and the hearts of Executive Council members as they carry out their work in the days ahead; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its appreciation and support to The Parsonage, and to the Rev. Bernard Mayes, for their ongoing witness, for their love of God's people and for their witness in the San Francisco community. Whereas, The Executive Council was given the opportunity and privilege of partaking in an evening of good food and hospitality at St. Francis Parish during the June 1984 meeting of the Council; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church express its warm and sincere thanks to the Rev. John Bright, Rector of St. Francis Parish, for his friendship and caring in providing the facility for the special cocktail and dinner party held at his Parish. Whereas, The dinner held for the Executive Council on July 7, 1984 at St. Francis Church in San Francisco was made especially lovely by the addition of floral arrangements created by Nancie Oyama; and Whereas, The Executive Council and all who attended that dinner recognize the tremendous amount of time and talent utilized to make each beautiful flower grouping; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church extend heartfelt thanks to Nancie Oyama for her work, and to our Creator who gave her the talent to utilize His bounty in so beautiful a manner. Whereas, The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church was feted, wined, dined and served with dignity and charm at St. Francis Episcopal Church on July 7, 1984; and Whereas, The members of the Guild of St. Clare had a great deal to do with making that dinner a resounding success and a welcome interval in the Executive Council's visit to San Francisco; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council express its deep appreciation to the members of the Guild whose time and energy made it all happen so beautifully, and send thanks for a job extremely well done. Whereas, The Rt. Rev. William Swing and the people of the Diocese of California and of the Province of the Pacific hosted the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church for its June 1984 meeting; and Whereas, The Executive Council, through the work of the people and staff of the Diocese were introduced to and visited several of the varied and on-going programs and facilities in the Diocese; and Whereas, An extremely productive and happy environment made it pleasant for all the Council and staff; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council extend its warm and heartfelt thanks to the Bishop of California and to all who contributed toward making the June 6-8, 1984 meeting of the Executive Council at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California, and the special events and programs in San Francisco, a wonderful example on which we sincerely hope to build in the future. Whereas, The Executive Council of the Episcopal Church has gained new understanding of what D-Day was 40 years ago and of what the significance of that day is in our own time; and Whereas, We have been called to know the truth that it is in service that we gain the authority we need to be effective ministers in Christ's name; and Whereas, One particular servant and one particular participant in D-Day has come to be both appreciated and loved by us all; therefore be it Resolved, That the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church extend to Presiding Bishop John M. Allin our affection, respect and good wishes as he begins the 41st year of his ministry as a deacon, that ministry which has provided a focus for his work as priest and bishop, pastor and friend. |
