Resolved, That the Executive Council give thanks to God for the cooperation in Atlanta of the business community, the government, the professional services and the churches in order to minister to the needs of the homeless, the poor, the sick, the oppressed and the unemployed; and be it further Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, express appreciation to the Hon. Andrew Young, Mayor of Atlanta, for his leadership in fostering this cooperation and for sharing with us the diplomatic and religious process through which this City redefined its priorities. Resolved, That this Executive Council express its deep sense of gratitude to Almighty God for the life and ministry of Charles Radford Lawrence II, for his keen intellect and his wisdom, for his wit, for his serious purpose, for his commitment to righteousness and fair play, for his pride and his humility, for his sense of justice, and his unwillingness to compromise his principles in any situation; and be it further Resolved, That this Executive Council convey to Dr. Margaret Lawrence and their children the sense of loss we share with them, and more expressly greatest joy that is ours for having known a special human being. Resolved, That the Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church express to Wayne Daniels, Sales Manager, Jill Whinery, Catering/Convention Services Manager, and the Banquet Staff of the Hyatt Regency, Atlanta, our thanks and appreciation for their cooperation and hospitality; and for the excellent meals and courteous service extended to the Executive Council and staff members during our stay in this fair city. Resolved, That the Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, give thanks to the Rt. Rev. C. Judson Child and the Diocese of Atlanta for the gracious hospitality they have extended to us, and express our appreciation for being sensitized by them to their ministry in this part of our nation. Resolved, That this Executive Council and staff express appreciation and thanks to David and Ginny Collins for the libations so warmly and hospitably provided, demonstrating that fun and frolic go hand in hand with vision and values. Resolved, That the Executive Council meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, express its warm appreciation and thanks to the director, staff and volunteer workers of the St. Luke's Jubilee Center for their gracious welcome and warm hospitality to us; and be it further Resolved, That this Council give thanks to God for the ministry of compassionate outreach of the St. Luke's Jubilee Center which is an inspirational model for the whole Church as to the meaning of Jubilee Center. Resolved, That the Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church give thanks to the personnel of the Episcopal Radio-TV Foundation, Inc. for the program and video presentation of Shadowlands which was so warmly received, and for their many years of service to the whole Church. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the upcoming convention in the Diocese of Hawaii to elect its Diocesan Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and the individual called to serve among you as Diocesan Bishop shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as both fulfill your call to ministry in your Diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Secretary of the convention of the Diocese of Hawaii. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the upcoming convention in the Diocese of Utah to elect its Diocesan Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and the individual called to serve among you as Diocesan Bishop shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as both fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Secretary of the convention of the Diocese of Utah. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the upcoming convention in the Diocese of Ohio to elect its Suffragan Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and the individual called to serve among you as Suffragan Bishop shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as both fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Secretary of the convention of the Diocese of Ohio. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the recent election in the Diocese of Alabama of Robert Miller as Suffragan Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and your Bishop-elect shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as you fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Bishop-elect and the people of the Diocese of Alabama. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the recent election in the Diocese of Delaware of C. Cabell Tennis as Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and your Bishop-elect shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as you fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Bishop-elect and the people of the Diocese of Delaware. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, George, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the recent election in the Diocese of Nevada of Stewart Zabriskie as Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and your Bishop-elect shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as you fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Bishop-elect and the people of the Diocese of Nevada. Whereas, The Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, has happily noted the recent election in the Diocese of Washington of Ronald Haines as Suffragan Bishop; and Whereas, The Executive Council and staff pray that you and your Bishop-elect shall be filled with grace and the Holy Spirit as you fulfill your call to ministry in your diocese; therefore be it Resolved, That the Secretary of the Executive Council be directed to convey these greetings to the Bishop-elect and the people of the Diocese of Washington. Resolved, That the Executive Council and staff of the Episcopal Church meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, June 17-20, 1986, pause in its deliberations to remember, with thanks to God, the life and ministry of the Rt. Rev. Leonardo Romero-Rivera, Bishop of Northern Mexico and President of Province IX, who died on June 2, 1986, and express to Mrs. Romero and their family its condolences in their grief and assure them of its prayers for their well-being as they continue their several pilgrimages without Bishop Romero's presence among them. Whereas, The Rt. Rev. Alexander D. Stewart, the Rev. Canon Richard Anderson, and the Rev. Canon Edward Geyer have, with care and distinction, given willingly and unstintingly of their time and considerable talents during their tour of duty at '815'; therefore be it Resolved, That the members of this Executive Council express appreciation for the work of their colleagues, give thanks to God for the privilege of working with them, and bid them Godspeed as they continue their witness for Christ and His Church in other areas of fruitful service. |
