Resolved, That the Executive Council, meeting in Charleston, WV, expresses its deep anguish and concern over the rise in the attacks against and burning of houses of worship and other civic institutions, and condemns the purveyors of hate who create a climate that inspires arson against Black and Multi-racial churches; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council commends the National Council of the Churches of Christ, the Center for Democratic Renewal, and the Center for Constitutional Rights for their pastoral work in reaching out to all the effected pastors and for their leadership in bringing this important issue to the public's attention; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council supports the Clinton Administration in giving high priority to the ongoing investigations being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council urges congregations, dioceses, and other Episcopal Church bodies to find tangible ways to assist in the rebuilding of these churches and support these congregations in their loss; and be it further

Resolved, That the Executive Council extends its prayers for all who have been affected by the burnings and requests that copies of this resolution be sent to appropriate government offices and church partners.
