Whereas, The Reverend Austin R. Cooper, Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Cleveland Ohio, had his home fired upon on Monday night, August 7, after he had received a threatening letter purported to have been sent by the Ku Klux Klan;

Whereas, This action was apparently in response to Father Cooper's courageous leadership as President of the Cleveland N.A.A.C.P. in the current school desegregation effort in Cleveland; therefore be it

Resolved, That we deplore this outbreak of violence, and join the Cleveland Interchurch Council, the Community Ministerian Development Conference and the Diocese of Ohio in extending our sympathy and support to Father and Mrs. Cooper and their children "for the indignities and dangers they have had to endure in the sanctuary of their home"; and be it further

Resolved, That we commend Father Cooper for the creative leadership he is giving in a tense situation; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Father Cooper and to the Bishop and Council of the Diocese of Ohio, together with a personal letter to each from the Presiding Bishop.
