Resolved, That the Executive Council affirm the recommendations of the Commission on Theological Education for Latin America and the Caribbean, and approve the following requests in the total amount of US $200,500.00 from the income of Trust Fund 809 for:

Diocesan Programs

  1. Diocese of Cuba -- Theological education for candidates to the ordained and lay ministry, and continuing education for clergy; $10,000.00
  2. Brazil, Central & South Central Dioceses -- Continued education for clergy; $7,500.00
  3. Guatemala -- Theological education for candidates to the ordained ministry; $10,000.00
  4. Honduras -- Theological education for candidates to the ordained ministry; clergy continued education; $10,000.00
  5. Nicaragua -- Training of lay and ordained leaders; clergy continued education; $10,000.00
  6. Panama -- Clergy continued education; theological education for candidates to the ministry; leadership training and library text; $10,000.00
  7. Dominican Republic -- Theological education for candidates to the ordained ministry; training lay leaders; $10,000.00
  8. Virgin Islands -- Special educational training for candidates to the ministry; establishment of necessary library texts; training of lay leaders; $10,000.00
  9. Puerto Rico -- Clergy continued education and lay leadership training; training education for the ordained ministry; $10,000.00
  10. Central Ecuador -- Training of lay missionaries; theological education for candidates to the ordained ministry, $10,000.00

Regional Programs

  1. Caribbean -- Clinical pastoral training for laity and clergy; $10,000.00
  2. Brazil -- For the acquisition of educational resources in Portuguese for use at the National Theological Seminary; $5,000.00
  3. Central America -- Center for Theological Reflection, for the publication of essays on the Anglican Central American history, liturgy and tradition; $10,000.00

Continuing Education

  1. Efrain Gonzalez Figueroa, Puerto Rico -- For his doctorate in ministry between 1989 and 1992; $3,000.00
  2. Santiago Garcia Iparraguirre, Guatemala -- To enable him to finish his doctoral thesis in the "History of the Church"; $3,000.00
  3. Juan Andres Quevedo Bosch, Cuba -- To study in the advanced degree program, Toronto School of Theology; $3,000.00

Special Programs

  1. The Rt. Rev. Leopoldo Frade, Honduras -- To study at St. George's College, Jerusalem (Leonardo Romero Scholarship); $3,500.00
  2. Ennis Duffis-Fox, Nicaragua -- For studies in the area of New Testament; $3,500.00

Commission Programs

  1. Center for Theological Reflection -- The Commission's Province IX pilot program for the Central America region; $37,000.00
  2. Commission meetings -- Self-explanatory; $15,000.00
  3. Commission sub-committee -- Study for the development of a common curriculum in area of Christian education for Province IX; $10,000.00
