Executive Council Pursues Development Plan for Archives in Austin

Archives' Building Project

Efforts by The Episcopal Church to construct a home repository for the Archives have reached a promising point with the announcement of negotiations to identify a favored partner to develop the Church-owned land in downtown Austin. Purchased for the Archives in 2009, the land is the largest open city block in the bustling center of Austin. The site is adjacent to the Sixth Street entertainment district, the Waller Creek revitalization project, and UT’s new Dell Medical School, all of which add to the possible development opportunities and potential for visitors to the Archives’ Research Center. The DFMS’s interests are represented by the Rev. Canon Lang Lowrey, asset manager and chief executive of Verta Group of Atlanta, GA. The Archives are currently housed at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, the headquarters in NYC, and two other physical locations. Watch this news feed for further developments in the Spring.
